Welcome Message
Civil Society Action Coalition on Education for All (CSACEFA) is a national coalition of over 450 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) working on Education issues in Nigeria. It is growing as a national policy advocacy group towards universal access to education within the national and international framework of equal opportunity to education since its emergence in year 2000 as a response to the commitments by governments and the international community in Dakar(UNESCO organised World Education Forum) to establish alternative forms of governance and management to achieve the goals of Education for All. CSACEFA believes that education is key to national development and has capacity for eradicating ignorance and removal of all barriers that hinders human growth and development. The impetus for the establishment and existence of CSACEFA is to mobilise, coordinate, facilitate and increase the involvement, participation and contributions of civil society organisations in policy formulation, decision making, and implementation, monitoring and evaluating the delivery of education in Nigeria.
In particular, CSACEFA seeks to contribute to increasing the democratisation of formulation of education policies and decision making through the full participation of civil society organisations.
CSACEFA is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) as a non governmental organisation and coalition of civil society organisations involved in education and related issues. It has a national secretariat that houses its operations (coordinating the activities of member organisations) which is based in the Federal Capital Territory (while elected focal organisations do same for the coalition at the state level). CSACEFA has a constitution which defines its membership and governance structure including relationships that exist or should exist amongst the principal officers/staff.
At the apex of the structure is the General Forum which is the highest decision making body for CSACEFA and it meets once in a year. The membership is made up of persons nominated in line with the provisions of the constitution. At the next level is the Facilitating Committee (FC) which meets quarterly and has responsibilities for producing quarterly update in writing from the zones, maintain links with state focal persons and feed into national position papers through the national secretariat. It also ensures that information from the national secretariat flow to state focal persons, contribute to approve the secretariat, work plan and manage the internal governance and conflict within CSACEFA.
At the state level is the focal person, whose responsibilities include producing quarterly updates in writing from the states, seeking new members, maintaining constant link with members in the state, feeding into national position papers having taken input from members in the state and ensuring that information from CSACEFA is fed back to members at state level.
The National Moderator who is a member of the FC is the Political Head/Chief Executive Officer of CSACEFA while the Policy Advisor/Head of Secretariat/Office has responsibilities for the day to day running and management of the National Secretariat including implementation of all the decisions taken by the FC, developing full systems to manage the affairs of CSACEFA with the support of program managers, officers and other staff within the secretariat.
