ActionAid (AAN) with funding Support from the Norwegian Agency for Development (Norad) organizes a 5 day training on Budget Literacy and tracking for education stakeholders and representatives of states Ministries of Education, Universal Basic and Secondary Education Boards, Budget and plannings, Civil Society Action Coalition on Education For All, Activista, Media and partners on Tax Justice and Gender Responsive Pbublic Services Projects from Lagos, Abuja and Sokoto States.
The training is aimed at building the capacity of stakeholders economic Literacy and budget accountability for Governance. The training will expose participants on economic literacy, budgeting and Budget processes; interface of Globalization processes and local economics, budget tracking and analysis and Gender Based Budgeting.
the ongoing training which started on the 10th of August in Abuja is expected to end on the 15th of August 2020. The training raised critical issues around involving the citizens and Civil Society Organizations in the budgetary processes to ensure Gender Responsive Education Plans and Public Services.
In the series of modules outlined for the training, Sector analysis of the 2020 Reviewed Appropriation Act as amended with focus on Education, Health, Agriculture and Women Affairs and Social investment programs were analyzed bringing to the fore the shortfalls and challenges in funding the social sector of the Nigeria economy in the National Budget.
The training and capacity building is to further provide stakeholders and citizens with the required skills and tools for the Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, with focus on Goal 4 and 6.
